The project aims to support Guatemala in meeting the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) procedural safeguard requirements, that is, the strategic social and environmental assessment (SESA) and the adoption of a Environmental Social Management Framework (ESMF).

In addition, the project aims to assist with the design of a Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM).

This will be achieved by assisting with the necessary governance assessments (i.e. relevant legal framework and of the conflict resolution mechanism); by assisting with the identification of potential risks and benefits arising from the proposed REDD+ policies and measures (PaMs) in the REDD+ interventions; by supporting the identification of how the relevant legal framework and additional mechanisms can be used for mitigating, addressing and minimizing potential risks and enhancement of benefits; and providing a conceptual framework for the design of the GRM.

The project is funded and supported by the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility through the Inter-American Development Bank.
