Jill Shankleman 
Jill has over thirty years’ experience working on understanding the social and environmental impacts of private sector investments and exploring the potential of the private sector to avoid or mitigate damaging impacts and enhance benefits. She prides herself on bringing clients a wealth of experience, and a practical approach.

Jill works with businesses, development banks, social investors and non-governmental organizations worldwide. She focuses on the social, political, environmental and human rights impacts of renewable and non-renewable resources - oil and gas, mining, renewable energy, agriculture and forestry.This includes advising on corporate environmental, social and governance management systems and supporting project managers and E&S specialists at the site level.


Jill set up the social consulting division of international consultancy ERM, but in 2000 left to establish up her own consultancy through which she provides long-term support to key clients and undertakes a selection of one-off assignments, such as ESG due diligence, problem solving on complex projects or policy development to address emerging issues.

Jill spends a proportion of her time on research that has resulted in a series of publications.
